Day 9 of the #augustbreak2022 challenge: red like the light shining on the face of the man I love as he plays the double bass in his Irish band. Since we met 6 and a half years ago, he has filled my life with music and so much joy and love and I'm a very lucky woman!
Day 8 of the #augustbreak2022 challenge: favorite taste. In summer, melon is a favorite of mine. It's sweet and juicy and refreshing, and if I could it'd be the only thing I eat all day! Oh, and I also love figs. I don't have any today - I ate them all 🤣 - but it's peak fig season and I'm in heaven!
Day 7 of the #augustbreak2022 challenge: beneath my feet. Most days you'll find me on my yoga mat trying to remain centered and calm in the face of life's challenges. It doesn't always work but, hey, at least, for 20 to 30 minutes I get to breathe deeply and move my body. It's funny how I went from being someone who never exercised to someone who exercises almost daily and yet, instead of congratulating myself for this amazing change, I tend to berate myself for not doing enough. You have to wonder, why are we always so hard on ourselves? So now at the end of my practice, I bow and I say "I'm grateful", because I am. I'm grateful for my body, and for yoga, and for taking the time to do something that's good for me.
Day 06 of the #augustbreak2022 challenge: I am reading Silversong by @silvanhistorian and Wild Card by @liwitchure. I'm also listening to Between Two Kingdoms by @suleikajaouad. I've become someone who reads several books at once. My 10-year old self would be appalled. She who never started a new book unless she had finished the previous one, she who suffered through boring novels because she thought she couldn't give up on a book - it was simply not done, right? - would probably judge me. But she hadn't yet received the best reading advice I've been given so far. A publisher friend once told me: "Life is too short and there are too many good books to waste time on a book you dislike." So true! And also I haven't changed that much: I don't read two novels at the same time, I just divide my time between fiction and non-fiction. What about you? What are your reading habits?
Day 5 of the #augustbreak2022 challenge: midday. This is not a pretty picture but this is our current situation. Here in Provence, we've been facing one heatwave after another since mid-May. We've been living with the windows closed and the shutters half-drawned for weeks now. This year, we're breaking every record. Summer arrived one month early, and this was the hottest month of July on record. So was June. Global warming is very real, and very scary, and we do all we can to fight it at an individual level, but we need our politicians to step up and fight with us instead of protecting economic interests. There's no planet B.
Day 4 of the #augustbreak2022 challenge. When my kids were babies, my heart would melt as I watched them sleep. The long, dark lashes resting on their soft cheeks, their tiny mouths like a rosebud, their cute little hands often resting above their heads. They were so sweet, the picture of peace. I thought those days were gone, my kids are teenagers now, they stay up later than me and they'd probably find me creepy if I came into their bedrooms to watch them sleep 🤣 But I was amazed to discover a sleeping cat is just as sweet and peaceful. There is something so moving about a baby or an animal falling asleep by your side or on your lap because they totally trust you. It's an honor I don't take for granted.
